Organic chemistry, a branch of chemistry, mainly deals with the structures, compositions, and synthesis of carbon-containing compounds. Originally, organicchemistry was defined as the study of compounds from living organisms. Afterwards, this definition has been enlarged and the artificially synthesized substances areinvolved. Before 1828, all organic compounds were resulted from the livingorganisms, and scientists did not believe organic compounds could be synthesizedwith inorganic compounds. However, in 1828, urea was synthesized by usinginorganic substances, which paved the way for a new definition of organic chemistry. |
