丘成桐,当代数学大师,现任哈佛大学讲座教授,1971 年师从陈省身先生在加州大学伯克利分校获得博士学位。发展了强有力的偏微分方程技巧,使得微分几何学产生了深刻的变革。解决了卡拉比(Calabi) 猜想、正质量猜想等众多难题,影响遍及理论物理和几乎所有核心数学分支。年仅33 岁就获得代表数学界最高荣誉的菲尔兹奖(1982),此后获得MacArthur 天才奖(1985)、瑞典皇家科学院Crafoord 奖(1994)、美国国家科学奖(1997)、沃尔夫奖(2010) 等众多大奖。现为美国科学院院士、中国科学院和俄罗斯科学院的外籍院士。筹资成立浙江大学数学科学研究中心、香港中文大学数学研究所、北京晨兴数学中心和清华大学数学科学中心四大学术机构,担任主任,不取报酬。培养的60 余位博士中多数是中国人,其中许多已经成为国际上杰出的数学家。由于对中国数学发展的突出贡献,获得2003 年度中华人民共和国科学技术合作奖。
