丛书第一至第四册难度循序渐进，编排体例大致相同：第一、二册相对而言较容易为一类；第三、四难度略高于第一、二册。每一册包括100个轻松有趣的单元，每个单元含一篇短文或故事等，每篇大约100-200词之间，每个单元所含生词一般不超过20个。每个单元由三类练习组成，即多项选择题、正误判断题、听写填空题。每道题均有参考答案。第三、四册的多项选择题配有答案解析。听力原文附在每个单元之后，以方便学生进一步自学、朗读和复习，加深对材料的理解。这套丛书的适应性很强，除在校本科生外，水平较高的高中生、高等职业学院、成人教育学院的学生、准备参加高等学校英语水平等级考试的人员以及具有一定水平的自学者，都可以使用该丛书进行听力训练。
