本书在第2版(普通高等教育“十一五”国家级规划教材)的基础上修订而成，为 “十二五”普通高等教育本科国家级规划教材，是新世纪土木工程系列教材之一。本次修订根据最新颁布的国家规范，结合基础工程学科的新发展，适当吸取了国内外较为成熟的基础工程新理论、新工艺、新技术。

本书除绪论外共9章，包括地基基础的设计原则，刚性基础与扩展基础，柱下条形基础、筏形和箱形基础，桩基础，沉井基础及其他深基础，基坑工程，特殊土地基，地基处理，抗震地基基础等。各章后附有相应的思考题与习题。

本书可作为高等学校土木工程专业本科教材，也可供从事土木工程研究、设计和施工等工作的工程技术人员参考。
